Phase I: Synthesis

 

The goal of Phase I is to gain an understanding of current structures of home-based nursing care delivery for LTM home care clients. This will be done by conducting a jurisdictional scan to identify current legislation and policies influencing structures of home-based care. This phase also includes a literature review of existing research related to the structures and outcomes of home care and the delegation, teaching and supervision of nursing care activities performed by unregulated care providers.

LITERATURE REVIEW

Existing evidence will be gathered and reviewed using Rapid Evidence Assessment methods. This review will examine existing research related to the structures and outcomes of home-based nursing care and the delegation, teaching and supervision of nursing care activities performed by unregulated care providers. Databases including MEDLINE, CINAHL, Scopus, PubMED, and others will be searched to identify relevant literature for inclusion in the review. Selected publications will undergo quality assessment and results will be synthesized.

JURISDICTIONAL SCAN

Key informants will be asked to identify provincial / territorial legislation, regional, and organizational policy documents influencing structures of home-based nursing care provision in their jurisdiction. These key informants will be asked to comment on how these policies are enacted in practice and to identify related issues / concerns. Policy documents and key informant responses will be reviewed and synthesized.
